We do everything we can to avoid places in the high season. Though can be tricky in foreign countries. Here in Penang, Malaysia, we blundered straight into the school holidays. Oh well -- live and learn!

We travel a lot for my hub’s profession and he has a system that saves us lots of money. We fly exclusively one airline so rack up lots of points. He sees his schedule for the year and books hotels and cars for the locations. Just about every week he checks prices, if lower, he cancels original reservations and rebooks. We might change hotels 5 times before we settle on one. It’s true if you can add a day before or after original dates, you can actually save money.

We've been so careful about only flying one airline since we moved to the east coast, and we're finally seeing the benefits. And OMG, price checking over and over is something I need to get better at when things are crazy like this.
